Class of 2018 Wing Stock Risers
Next up is our look at the top wing stock risers in the 2018 class. We break down some of the biggest movers and shakers in the rising senior class heading into the fall.
SF Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon)
Previous Ranking: #3
Current Ranking: #2
It wasn’t a huge move, but THT has been making steady strides toward taking over the #2 spot in the 2018 class for a while and he has finally done it after a monster July with his new Team Rose squad. Horton-Tucker displayed his versatile offensive game at multiple events and showed he will be an impact player at the high major level with his skill set and basketball IQ.
SF Zion Griffin (Hinsdale South)
Previous Ranking: #13
Current Ranking: #3
Griffin saw a big jump not only in his ranking, but his status as a recruit. Went from solid mid-major target to legit high-major prospect. How did this happen? He significantly elevated his game in a number of areas including consistency on his jump shot and was a monster against elite competition during the July live period in Kansas City opening the eyes of a lot of college coaches. Big time slashing wing that has tremendous upside.
SG Zion Young (Simeon)
Previous Ranking: #21
Current Ranking: #14
For us we were conservative with Young’s initial ranking in June when he transferred back to the Midwest from Utah primarily because we didn’t have a firm eval on him in a while. After seeing him in July Young is definitely a solid mid-major prospect with his combination of athleticism and strength. Can also stretch the defense with his perimeter shooting ability.
SG Eddie Creal (Romeoville)
Previous Ranking: #44
Current Ranking: #31
Creal has steadily moved up the board over the last year. He stepped out of his backcourt mate shadow in July proving in his own right he should be considered a low-major prospect. Creal broke off several big games in both Milwaukee and Kansas City in primetime type games. He showed off his athleticism in the open floor and improved the consistency on his usually streaky jump shot.
SG Anthony Lynch (Larkin)
Previous Ranking: #50
Current Ranking: #33
Lynch is a downhill attacking two guard that can really get to the rim. He has a mentality that he is going to keep coming at you over and over again. That is what he did in July. He was probably the most consistent player for Kessel Heat throughout July with his ability to get to the rim and get out in the transition game. Has sneaky speed with the ball in his hands and can hit a mid-range jumper.
SG Colton Sandage (Bloomington)
Previous Ranking: #52
Current Ranking: #36
Sandage is an athletic and skilled shooting guard that has the ability to be instant offense. He showed that in the spring and then the switch over to Team RWA made that even more obvious. Sandage’s biggest strength is his perimeter shooting. One of the better perimeter marksmen in the 2018 class with a quick release. More than just a shooter as he makes plays in the open floor and will dunk on an opponent if they don’t watch out!
SG Jayden Gasby (Curie)
Previous Ranking: #69
Current Ranking: #49
Gasby is a strong and athletic two guard that was one of the top performers at the High Academic Showcase in July. The Curie two guard was lights out shooting it from deep! He has been a solid shooter in the past, but this was the most consistent we had seen him be from game to game. Athletic wing that can play above the rim as well. Should be a really good D2 prospect.
SG Kenyon Duling (Morgan Park)
Previous Ranking: #95
Current Ranking: #57
Duling continues to elevate his stock by finding the perfect fit running with Caron Butler Elite on the travel team circuit. This was an opportunity for him to be more of a featured player than he was at Morgan Park and show more of his offensive game. The tough and hard-nosed defensive wing brings a lot of intangibles to the table, but he showed he could also mix in some scoring as well. Great glue guy at the next level.
SF Calvin Fisher (Monticello)
Previous Ranking: NR
Current Ranking: #66
Fisher went from unranked to a top 70 prospect with his play for the Illinois Irish this July. He is a central Illinois wing that can shoot it from three at a good clip. Very skilled three man with projectability. Jump shot is his strength, but flashes in other areas as well. Quality small college prospect!
SF Jace Link (Pekin)
Previous Ranking: #216
Current Ranking: #93
Link is another wing with the Illinois Irish that improved his stock! What we like about Link is his toughness and versatility. He does the little things well rebounding, diving after loose balls, and being in the right spot at the right time. Solid shooter that can also pass it. Competes on the defensive end. D3/NAIA player.
