Class of 2018 Small College Posts
We close out our breakdown of the class of 2018 with a look at the small college post prospects in the class! Here are 10 D3/NAIA prospects we really like for the next level.
PF Caleb Strohmeier (Edwardsville)
Strohmeier has bounced back and forth between being a three and a four. We think he has settled into and embraced being a four man at the next level. Good skill level that can face up and hit a jumper. Gritty forward that competes!
PF Jack Sorenson (Wheaton North)
Sorenson is a skilled post that brings a lot of intriguing qualities to the table as a prospect. Like how efficient he is with his post moves and plays within himself. Also improving as a rebounder. Mobile.
PF Jacob Hall (Marquette Catholic)
Hall is also another skilled forward that can play both on the block scoring with his back to the basket and facing up hitting pick and pop jumpers. Soft touch around the hoop.
PF Jack Halverson (Peotone)
Halverson is a 6’7” four man out of Peotone. He is a skilled face up power forward with a long and lanky frame. He handles well for his size as the 2018 forward is more than comfortable attacking from the perimeter after taking posts out of their comfort zones. Finishes extremely well through contact converting and-1s and shielding the ball away from defenders. Makes some tough up and unders. High level D3/NAIA prospect.
PF Blake Weiss (Mascoutah)
Weiss is skilled four with some face up abilities. The southern Illinois post struggled with injuries, but was able to get back on the floor with Jets-Ramey United in July mixing it up and hitting some shots.
C Tyler Joest (Breese Central)
He has length, height, and will need to add a ton of strength to play at the college level. The southern Illinois big man is intriguing because he can really shoot it as a face up five. Skilled post that stretches the floor especially on the baseline out to 18 feet consistently. Good passer as well.
PF Jordan Morris (Proviso East)
Morris is a physically mature forward that has freakish athleticism. Powerful finishing around the rim when he has a head of steam behind him. Solid rebounder snatching them with his strong hands. Not overly skilled.
PF Joel Adese (La Salette Academy)
The 6’7” four man from La Salette Academy has good strength. He is a bouncy forward that finishes well around the hoop. Shows some ability handling it slashing with power. The tough four man played with the KC Pacers on the circuit.
PF Jesus Vargas (Rockridge)
The 6’8” big man has size and mobility in the post. Defensively flashes his ability to swat shots inside and even contests perimeter jumpers. Raw offensive player, but a prospect that would be worth a look by D3 and NAIA programs to develop.
