2019 G Montez Leath discusses growth, upcoming season and more
Montez Leath had some impressive games this past season for the Villages.
The 2019 guard dropped 18 points in the Class 5A-District 5 championship win over Mount Dora Christian. He also had eight points in his team’s state semifinal loss to Kevin Knox and Tampa Catholic. Now, Leath will be playing this fall at Trinity Catholic after transferring over.
“I think the past season went great. I learned a lot of new techniques and moves,” Leath told Prep Hoops Florida. “I learned players must praise others because without service there is no reward. My role this year is to create shots for others and playing hard on and off ball defense.”
The 6’0″, 165-pounder joined Nike Team Florida this summer where he focused on improving his ballhandling, shooting and overall decision making.
Leath starting playing basketball in the 4th grade. He says his biggest strength is his ability to play tough defense and turn that into offensive opportunities for his team.
No offers or interest have come yet for the junior guard. Leath heads to a Trinity Catholic group that fell to The Villages last year in the Class 5A district final. Expect him to boost the offense quite a bit with his pure scoring prowess.
