2019 G Josh Green breaks down his transfer to IMG and latest recruitment
The class of 2019 in Florida just added another legitimate Division I prospect.
6’6″, 195-pound guard Josh Green has come over to the state after playing at Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix, Arizona. He’ll play this season at IMG.
The junior has 23 offers currently from Seton Hall, Kansas, Oregon, UCLA, Kansas State, Marquette, Wake Forest, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, USC, Stanford, Georgia State, UC Santa Barbara, Washington, Arizona State, Arizona, TCU, UNLV, Cal, Prairie A&M, Utah State, San Francisco and UT Martin.
He felt the need to move to IMG to improve his game.
“They have great facilities and staff. I can fit in academics and training and I’m enjoying my time here so far and looking forward to the season,” Green told Prep Hoops Florida. “I don’t think my role will change much. I’ll be a versatile guard, working hard, playing tough defense, running the lanes, shooting the ball and getting the ball to the open man.”
This past season, Hillcrest Prep played in a good amount of national tournaments. Green was able to play alongside center DeAndre Ayton, a 7-footer who will play at Arizona this season and is projected to be an NBA lottery pick in 2018. He called playing with Ayton, a great experience and something that he learned a lot from.
Over the summer, Green played with West Coast Elite. He has spent the summer and now the fall working hard on his individual game, strength and overall fitness. Green ranks No. 15 overall in our 2019 class rankings.
He started playing basketball at age 5 because of the influence of his older brother Jayden.
“I played a few different sports when I lived in Australia but have just focused on basketball the last few years since I moved to the United States,” he said.
Following in the footsteps of former Montverde star and now Philadelphia 76er Ben Simmons, Green joins the list of Australian athletes who have come to the U.S. for high school basketball.
Green pointed to his biggest strengths as his athleticism, ability to run the floor and defense.
“I have worked hard on my shot and I’m also passing the ball well, so I see those as strengths as well now,” he said. “I want to improve every area of my game as well as my strength and continually get better.”
Green is quick and wise beyond his years. There’s no doubt he’ll rack even more Divison I offers now playing at IMG alongside a new-look group. He’s the perfect mold for the school and he should flourish there. Expect him to be one of the top 2019 prospects in the state and the country this fall.
