2018 Summer Offers Across Virginia (Part 1)
Now that we’ve predicted some of the top prospects in the state, it’s time to take a look at those who boosted their stocks in July and August and came away with new offers. Here’s part one of our “Summer Offers Across Virginia” series, featuring five guys who pulled new offers during the live period. Stay tuned for more moving forward.
Sardarr Calhoun | 6’5” WG | Blue Ridge/Team Loaded VA
July/August Offers: ETSU, UNCG, Mount St. Mary’s
Calhoun could have played for a lesser team and saw much more action, but he was content with being a role player on a team that was going to do something special, and his niche role showed out to some schools. The three and d athletic wing picked up three offers in July, moving his total to eight, and with a big senior season he could see more coming. He started at a small school in Sussex County, and if he had been playing high level basketball throughout his high school career there’s a good chance he’d be looking at many more offers right now. However, with Blue Ridge graduating their two top scorers in Aamir Simms (Clemson) and Josh Colon, expect him to have a big senior season moving forward.
Florent Thamba | 6’8” PF | Mount Mission/Team Loaded NC
July/August Offers: TCU, Tulsa, South Florida
Thamba came around throughout the summer and saw his offers take off after picking up an offer from VCU and ECU in late May. He’s still pretty raw offensively, but he’s an impressive looking prospect with a big, strong upper body and the ability to get up and down the floor with the best of them. Defensively is where he shines, and he’ll be an immediate impact player at the next level with his ability to protect the rim and rebound on both ends. He’ll be a guy to watch this summer, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him pick up more lower end high major and upper mid major offers if he doesn’t make his decision soon.
Dereon Seabron | 6’5” WG | Lake Taylor/Team Loaded 757
July Offers: Central Connecticut State, Robert Morris
Playing as part of a deep backcourt featuring five guards with division one offers, Seabron stood out big time in July for Loaded 757, particularly at Hoop Group Elite Session One and the Hoop Group team camp the first weekend where he picked up two offers from the northeast. The 6’5” guard can play on and off the basketball, has great length for a wing and is a smooth athlete that thrives in transition and can also create his own shot in the half court. He sits with eight total offers, and as he fills out he should be an immediate scoring impact at the next level.
Jordan Miller | 6’6” WF | Loudoun Valley/D1SA Spartans
July Offers: Radford, Drexel, High Point, Campbell, Wofford
Committed: George Mason
Miller was one of the biggest stock risers throughout the summer, going from zero offers to nine after AAU season started. After winning a state championship at Loudoun Valley, he continued to show that he can be an efficient and versatile guy that can do a little bit of everything to help his team win. D1SA was one of the best nonshoe company teams in the state, and without Miller they wouldn’t have been able to compete with many of the top programs on the east coast. His ability to be the go-to guy while being efficient and methodical was most impressive, and he does it all without needing the ball in his hands all the time. He’s the perfect example of playing for the right fit and excelling instead of going to the biggest name team, and his versatility should help him thrive at the next level. He recently committed to George Mason of the A10 conference.
Chris Ford | 6’8” PF | LC Bird/River City Reign
July Offers: Catawba, Chowan, Norfolk State
Ford was one of the most improved players throughout the summer. The LC Bird big man has only been playing basketball for a little over three years now, and he missed his entire junior season with the Skyhawks due to a leg injury. He’s gone from a big, athletic project to a player in a very short amount of time. He had a big July, not only shining at Big Shots Myrtle Beach and the Adidas Select Richmond Session where he averaged a double-double at both, but also showed his ability against the best when he earned an invite to Victor Oladipo Skills Camp and led the camp in field goal percentage. A defensive minded big who’s only scratched the surface offensively, he’ll pan out to be an absolute steal at the next level if he continues to improve the way he has over the past couple of seasons.
