Virginia Summer Stock Boosters: 2019 Guards
Virginia was well represented on the grassroots circuit this summer. As the season winds down and many players return from AAU back to their high school squads, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the players who have raised their stock the most since last high school season. Below is a rundown of five rising junior guards who have seen a sharp boost in their recruitment this summer as a result of consistently productive play.
ASHTON HAGANS | OAK HILL
Game Elite 2019 guard Ashton Hagans is one of the more dynamic prospects nationally at his position. The 6’4 rising junior brings high level athleticism, versatility, and a great feel for the game. UNC, NC State and Cincinnati are among the recent schools to offer Hagans.
ANTHONY HARRIS | PAUL VI
Anthony Harris started, and played a key two way role for Team Takeover on the EYBL this season. The 6’3 guard, who can score it in bunches, also provides lockdown defense and leadership intangibles. Look for Harris, who recently added a Wake Forest offer, to have a breakout junior season at PVI.
CHASE COLEMAN | MAURY
Chase Coleman helped lead 16U Boo Williams to . The rising junior, who stood out at Norfolk State Team Camp, could be in for a very productive season at Maury. Coleman has proved that he can compete, and defend at a very high level. He also displays ideal leadership qualities as a point guard.
XAVIER JOHNSON | EPISCOPAL
Xavier Johnson was a very important player for 17U Team BBC on the Adidas Gauntlet this summer. Not only did he provide lockdown defense on the perimeter, but the rising junior floor general demonstrated the ability to beat his man off the dribble, create for others, and make shots with consistency. Johnson appears primed for a highly productive season at Episcopal.
EVAN BUCKLEY | STONE BRIDGE
DC Blue Devils point guard Evan Buckley helped lead his team to a , and a very respectable campaign on the UAA. The savvy floor general elevated his game among stiff competition this summer, and has seen his recruitment expand as a result. JMU and Lafayette recently offered the talented rising junior, who has eight scholarship offers to date.
