Top Perfomers in Vegas
There was over 20 teams that were playing in Las Vegas this past weekend in one of the three tournaments that included BigFoots, Fab 48, and the Adidas Summer Championships. I am going to highlight several players that stood out.
Hayden Welling 6’8 2019 (Corner Canyon) the big man had a very good weekend for Vivent Swoosh as his team lost in the finals of the Fab 48 Tournament. Welling is getting recruited by almost every D1 school in the state of Utah and I expect some offer to start coming in. He is a great rebounder and his offensive game keeps on improving.
Daxton Carr 6’5 2018 (Highland ID) had his best live period by far. He had three games where he scored over 15 points for Utah Exum Elite. He currently has five D1 offers and is a player that has a very high ceiling. Carr is very good in transition and also a nice pull-up.
Zach Mcwhorter 6’7 2018 (American Fork) is a very solid big man who can do a little bit of everything. He was able to score in the paint consistently for his club team, All-Utah Basketball. Mcwhorter recruitment is very quiet right now and I think he would be a very good addition at t he D2 or Juco level.
James Nelson 6’5 2018 (Salem Hills) was playing with UBC in the BigFoots Tournament. He played well to earn the praise of his coach and earn a scholarship from him. UBC is coached by Todd Phillips, the mens basketball coach at Salt Lake Community College. Nelson is a big wing that can get really hot from deep and can score from the mid-range.
Max Watson 6’4 2018 (Box Elder) was playing with Utah Hard Knox at the Adidas Summer Championships. He has some games he got extremely hot from deep and scoring in the pain. After his last game, Watson was offered by Southern Utah University and the University of Hartford.
Matt Kitzman 6’0 2018 (Juan Diego)was playing with the Salt Lake Rebels in the Fab 48. The guard was able to have several games where scored 18 or more. I was impressed with ability to create space off the dribble and get his shot of versus bigger defenders. Kitzman is getting recruited by some D3 schools and I think he possibly play at the D2 level.
