Southeastern Elite Camp Scouting Report: Upperclassmen
Last Sunday, Southeastern hosted their 2nd elite camp in as many weekends. They had nearly 40 of the best players from across the state all competing at a high level in the hopes of picking up a D1 offer to one of the fastest rising teams in the nation. I want to say thank you to Coach Ladner and the rest of the staff at Southeastern for the invitation and hospitality while I was there. Without further ado, the top players from the day:
Parker Edwards 6’3 G St. Paul’s 2018
Parker was able to pick up an offer to Southeastern last summer, and he showed that he is definitely still worth the offer. He shoots the ball extremely well from deep, and his ball handling skills are vastly underrated. He is without a doubt a D1 guard in the making.
Vernon Simms 5’10 G Warren Easton 2018
Sims is a workhorse on both ends of the court. He is a strong lead guard, and is a pure point guard, looking to get others in a position for success. There were times he struggled when he tried to do too much, but overall it was a good day for him.
Lance Madison 6’3 G Warren Easton 2018
Madison is another Warren Easton product that looked very good against high level competition. He was able to get to the rim pretty easily, and when he got there, he finished well. He has a springy game, and is able to explode to the rim.
TJ Collins 6’3 G Bonnabel 2018
This was the third time that I had seen TJ in the span of about 8 days, and he is without a doubt deserving of his top 5 ranking for the class of 2018. He is a walking bucket, capable of scoring from anywhere on the court. He had a couple of very deep 3’s, and during 4 on 4 games, he lead his team to stay on the court longer than anyone.
Jalen Perkins 6’6 F Walker 2018
Perkins was one of the most impressive prospects that I saw from the weekend. He was able to take a handful of rebounds coast to coast and finish above the rim, but that I’ve seen him do before. What really impressed me was his ability to shoot the three, and attack off the bounce. He looks to have completely transitioned to a wing player, and that totally changes his college prospects.
Seneca Knight 6’6 F Northside 2018
Knight was another prospect that I came away very impressed by. Knight has the size, length, and athleticism that you are ideally looking for from a D1 wing prospect. He was one of the best, if not the best three point shooter from the camp. Not only that, but he was locked in on the defensive side of the ball, and when he does that, he looks like a no brainer D1 player.
Semaj Matthews 6’7 F Landry-Walker 2018
If Matthews were 2 inches taller, he would be able to go to any school in the country. He has an extremely long wingspan, and has natural shot blocking instincts on the defensive side of the ball. He showed off an improved ability on the offensive end, and was able to make some good 1 on 1 moves that lead to some scores.
Jonathan Cisse 6’2 G St. Thomas More 2018
Cisse was another player that absolutely looked the part of a D1 guard at the camp. If you give him even a sliver of daylight, he is going to make a shot no matter where he is on the court. What impressed me the most, however, was his natural ability to facilitate the ball and find open teammates time and time again.
Chandler Owenby 6’8 F St. Paul’s 2018
Owenby is a prototypical stretch 4 at the next level. He can shoot the ball very well, especially from the corners, so if you put someone his size on him, their rebound and shot blocking skills are almost completely negated. He also has the athleticism to be able to attack from the wings and dunk on you if you aren’t careful.
Robert Finklea 6’8 F Biloxi (MS) 2018
Finklea might not be the most skilled big man, but there is absolutely no disputing his power after this weekend. If you checked twitter, you will have seen the rim that Finklea ripped down and backboard that he shattered when he went up and dunked the ball off an offensive rebound.
