Rumble on the River Scouting Report pt. 2
The Rumble on the River was a skills and exposure camp this Saturday in New Orleans, and they were able to attract some top end talent, going all the way from 6th grade to upcoming seniors. It was a really well put on event, and was competitive the entire time I was there. I just want to thank everyone there for all of your hospitality, and say that NOLA23 is a top-notch organization that is steadily on the rise. I look forward to big things in their future.
Shawn Royal 6’4 G Country Day 2020
Royal already has the size, length, and athleticism that you are looking for from the guard spot at the next level. He is a very accurate shooter from the outside, and at his size, he is a tough contest for most guards. He still gets bumped off his path a little too easily when going to the goal, but as he puts on more weight over his high school career, that problem should solve itself.
Donte Mitchell 5’10 G Rummel 2019
Mitchell is another very talented member of the backcourt for Rummel, along with 2020 Corey Smooth. Mitchell plays with a high IQ, and sees the floor well. He shot the ball very well from deep all day, including a very impressive pull up 3 in transition, in one of the prettiest plays of the day. There are times that Mitchell can play a bit out of control, but when he is able to make easy passes and make easy plays, that’s when he looks the best.
Myles Johnson 5’10 G Lusher 2019
Johnson is a slashing guard that is very adept at getting to the goal. He can finish well, and is good at finding creative finishes around the defense. He isn’t overly athletic, but he is deceptively quick using dribble moves to get into the paint. Once in the paint, he can finish or pass to the open man down low or a cutter heading to the goal.
Rodney Munson 6’2 G Bonnabel 2019
Munson appears to have grown as of late, and looked to be around 6’2-6’3. He primarilly played off ball this weekend, as he will be doing at Bonnabel this season next to 2018 G TJ Collins, and looked very good doing so. He shot the ball extremely well from deep, and was able to attack closeout when the defense played him too tight. To read more on Munson check out his Prospect Spotlight HERE.
Aaron Ursin 6’6 C Holy Cross 2020
Ursin is a young big that I’ve had the chance to see a handful of times this summer. He is still very raw, but has gotten better everytime I’ve seen him. He is already 6’6, but with his wide shoulders, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were still growing. His game is strictly in the paint on both sides of the ball right now, but he defends the rim well and is able to rebound at a high rate.
Jacob Mushatt 6’1 G Country Day 2020
This was my first time seeing Mushatt play, but I was impressed with what I saw. He is another very talented member of Country Day’s 2020 class, including both Shawn Royal and Justin Ibieta. Mushatt is a very capable shooter from the outside, and was capable of handling the ball surprisingly well. I look forward to seeing how his game grows over the next few years.
