Recruiting Report: Zak Zografos (2018)
When it comes to picking a college for the future, Brunswick 6’6” forward Zak Zografos (2018), is looking for more than a team — Zografos is looking for a family.
“The big thing, our high school basketball program is real close, almost like a family. So, I’d like to go somewhere that’s a real close unit,” Zografos told Prep Hoops.
The inside-out scoring big man is coming off a stand-out series of months with the Akron Bobcats. Yet, he’s received an offer.
“I haven’t been offered yet … I’ve talked to Wheeling Jesuit is the big [school], Cincinnati Christian University, then there’s Marietta, Baldwin Wallace, Mount Union, Malone.” Zografos continued breaking down his recruiting scene by mentioning a D-II in central Ohio, “I actually talk to Ohio Dominican a lot. I probably talk to them the most frequently.”
Zografos hasn’t taken any campus visits yet, but he “would like to.” It may be difficult to find a weekend this fall however, as he’s picked up tight end/receiver duties on the football field for his senior season.
Despite exiting July without a scholarship offer, don’t expect Zografos to be without any options forever. His offensive skills and mobility warrant a college roster spot come the winter of 2018.
“I think I have real good feet, so it helps me score — I can score inside and out. That helps a lot. I shoot the ball well. Then inside, I have real good feet to be able to score on any defender,” Zografos said.
For Brunswick, his offensive presence is needed in the paint. However, this summer playing with Pete Nance during the grassroots season, Zografos showed the ability to thrive alongside another versatile forward.
“At first it was kind of hard because we were both trying to do the same things. But, after two or three tournaments we started to get the hang of it and it started to work … During the AAU season, I scored a lot from catch-and-shoot because Pete would post-up and just kick it out. But for the high school season, I’m more inside and score a lot in the low-post,” Zografos detailed.
As Zografos himself will tell you, the natural next step in his offensive arsenal is adding 2nd-level scoring.
“Getting to the basket more. Just from the 3-point line, just driving to the basket and shooting off the dribble are a few things I’m trying to add.”
In the classroom, Zografos carries a 3.0 GPA. He’s signed up to take the ACT for this first time this October.
