Recruiting Report: Ty Quiroz (2018)
This past season was full of milestones for 2018 guard Ty Quiroz.
The aggressive 6’0″, 170-pound Ridgewood starter surpassed the 1,000 career point mark and also broke a school single game record with a 41-point performance against Kingdom Prep.
He averaged a career-best 16.7 points per game for the Rams (18-11). Prior to that, he averaged 16.3 points per game as a sophomore and 11.1 points per game as a sophomore.
Here’s what Quiroz says he took away from this past season and what he aims to do in his final high school year.
“I learned that all opponents come out with a strong competitive fight and we must be prepared physically and mentally,” Quiroz told Prep Hoops Florida. “I also feel I grew into a leadership role. My role as a senior is to lead and do whatever it takes to win a state championship.”
He spent the summer improving his rebounding and ability to move without the ball. Quiroz spent his time with Team Speights on the Powerade Circuit, his first year with the program. He went on to be selected to the Powerade All-American Camp and to the All-Star Top 20 Game.
Starting his basketball career at age 5. Quiroz said his ability to score, outside shooting and the ability to get my teammates involved are his biggest strengths.
Currently, the rising senior holds one offer from Division III Hope College. He’s also drawn interest from Central Maine Community College, Sage College and the New York Institute of Technology.
Quiroz has proven he belongs time and time again. He is an impressive catch and shoot player and as he improves his off the ball skills, he will be valued a bit more. Right now, he’s underrated despite his high scoring performances in Class 6A ball. Look for Quiroz to land in the Division III ranks and play tough basketball.
