Recruiting Report: Trevor Olson (2018)
Trevor Olson is one of the few top-shelf South Dakota players that hasn’t committed to play college hoops somewhere yet. He probably won’t be on the proverbial board much longer though.
Olson, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Sioux Valley, was busy this summer. He played an integral role on one of the top grassroots teams in the Dakotas, the Dakota Schoolers, and also put in a lot of time with his high school team.
“We had a really good summer for our team,” Olson said. “We almost got to 30 wins. A good group of guys to play with. Team camps went well with my school team too. So it was a really fun summer.”
Olson’s a top-notch shooter and can get hot in a hurry. When he does, his range extends deep well beyond the 3-point line and his combination of length and a quick release makes him very tough to contest. The threat of his outside shot opens up further opportunities as many defenders sell out to try to stop him from casting triples. Because of that, he’s adept at getting to the rim and he’s added a solid in-between game to his scoring repertoire.
Olson’s gotten a lot of college interest particularly from the Dakota Athletic Conference Schools at the NAIA level and said he’s hoping to have a decision made fairly soon.
“Still kind of deciding but I’ve got it narrowed down to a handful,” said Olson. “Jamestown, Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, Mount Marty College, Northwestern [Iowa], and Wayne State are all up there for me. Been just doing a lot of visits and seeing how everything goes. Trying to find where my best fit is where I’m most comfortable.”
While Olson’s got a big decision ahead of him regarding his future, he also wants to make the most of a senior season that begins with high expectations.
“Our Sioux Valley high school team should be good,” said Olson. “I think we’ll be up there in the top five. Hopefully pushing for a state title. We have the talent to do it. Class A is loaded again this year I think. It’ll be tough but I’m looking forward to it.”
