Recruiting Report: Matthew Hurt (2019)
Five star 2019 forward Matthew Hurt went for 20 a game in three July Adidas events and now is looking at the visits he will take.
On Monday Matthew Hurt was named a Prep Hoops 17u All American after leading D1 Minnesota with 20 points, eight rebounds, and a couple blocks a game. The return of Hurt from a hand injury made D1 Minnesota a nationally ranked team and helped them to a 15-4 record in July.
Hurt played in the Adidas Nations last weekend with the 2019/2020 team. Hurt missed the first game because of a flight issue and then put up seven boards, 4.5 boards, and a top five total of blocks playing split time (five in five out) in the games.
Hurt had a ten rebound game against one of the USA senior-to-be teams and then had a dozen points against the other USA 2018 squad.
Now for Matthew it’s a time of rest, a time for vacation, and time to look into some visits. Hurt will look at seven or eight schools in the next 9-10 weeks.
UCLA. Hurt’s family vacation will be out in Los Angeles this August but at the tail end Matthew will spend half a day on the UCLA campus with Steve Alford.
Indiana. At the end of September the Hurts will head southeast from Rochester, Minnesota, and see three schools. Indiana is where Matthew’s D1Minnesota teammate Race Thompson is so they have that connection plus of course IU has been aggressively recruiting Hurt.
Kentucky. UK is the only school that is talking to Matthew that hasn’t offered but some feel that could change soon. Matthew will see UK at the end of September.
Louisville. The Hurts have a lot of family in the Louisville area and they will go by the Cardinal campus to see the football team play Murray State and take a visit of the school and basketball facilities.
Duke/North Carolina. Over MEA break (a five day weekend for Minnesota educators and students) the Hurts will head to North Carolina to see both UNC and Duke. Practice will have started by then (mid-October) so the Hurts can see the campus and practices run by Roy Williams and Coach K.
Kansas. Nothing is scheduled as of yet but plans are to try and get to KU at some point. KU wanted Matthew to come down for the traditional practice opener but Matthew will be at Louisville/IU/UK that weekend.
Minnesota. During one of the fall football games Matthew and his family will come up to Minnesota to see a practice/workout, see Matthew’s brother Michael who is on the team there, and take his latest visit with the Gophers.
