Recruiting Report: Malcolm Miller (2019)
Shelbyville 2019 shooting guard Malcolm Miller came to life late in July for the Illinois Irish. The 6’4” wing has great size for position and is known as a plus shooter. Struggled shooting it in the two previous events we saw, but man was he on fire in our eval of him in KC at the Jayhawk Invitational. He shot lights out with his lethal release in the catch and shoot. We look forward to catching Miller during the high school season to see how his game continues to progress.
He spoke about his sophomore campaign at Shelbyville.
“My high school season was alright. We didn’t have a ton of pieces, but we are building and making progress. We have a lot of younger guys coming in that are trying to get better. I think I did alright. I could have done some things better. I am working on those things in the gym now to be better for next year.”
Where has he improved his game this spring and summer with the Irish?
“I think going off the dribble I have evolved a lot more getting to the rim instead of just being a primary shooter like I was last year. I try to get my own shot, but I also try to get it to other people passing so they can’t just draw in on one person.”
He ran with a new club this spring and summer with the Illinois Irish.
“I like it. It is a good experience playing with a solid team and a bunch of really good guys. We can be missing shots, but we are going to be grinding the whole time. We might not make shots at times, but we will be in the game because of our defense and rebounding abilities.”
Where do things stand with recruiting?
“I went on a visit to Illinois State in June. I have had a couple Ivy League schools contact me. Western Illinois and Davidson.”
He broke down that Illinois State visit and what he liked about the Missouri Valley program.
“It was really good. The staff is great. It was a great experience for me to go and see everything.”
What will he be looking for in a school down the road?
“Coaching staff and how they are going to help me evolve as a basketball player and how they are going to focus on me.”
