Recruiting Report: Jeff Hernandez (2018)
Miami Christian enjoyed its second Class 2A state title victory in the span of three seasons with a 51-48 buzzer beating win over Florida Prep.
Neftali Alvarez nailed the 3 to win it with time expiring. A sound and steady group, Miami Christian is going to use one player a bit more this year. Alongside Alvarez, expect to see 2018 forward Jeff Hernandez be one of the main contributors.
Currently, Hernandez has an offer from College of Charleston and interest from Florida Southern, Eastern Florida and Eckerd.
The 6’4″, 180-pounder spent his first summer playing with the Miami Tropics. It made sense since most of the squad is made up of his high school teammates and his head coach is Juan Cardona.
Hernandez is a very talented spot up shooter and is someone who can create his own basket inside with his length.
This is what he said he learned from his junior season.
“Responsibility, time management, determination and teamwork,” Hernandez told Prep Hoops Florida. “My IQ skills grew over the season, yet I’m still trying to improve that. For the next season, I want to be a leader to my teammates including the younger ones.”
Starting his basketball career at age 8, Hernandez says he’s had nothing but love for the game since he first stepped on the court.
He pointed to his biggest strengths as his penetration and shooting. He’s aiming to improve on those skills while bettering his defense, one on one and the pick and roll.
Plenty of Division I coaches were talking about their admiration for Hernandez this summer. He’s a fun player to watch. He’s steady and tends to always find his way into the right spot on the floor. I expect him to land a few more offers in his senior season.
