Recruiting Report: Jaeden King (2019)
Jaeden King’s outside shooting as a sophomore became the final piece to the Raiders run to the state tournament and a 23-9 record. He’s a top 12-20 level 2019 prospect in the state of Minnesota.
King is a long shooter that made a several clutch jumpers and game changing shots this winter. His ten points a game gave the Raiders a fourth scoring option, and a different scoring option.
The Raiders had Daniel Oturu inside, Ryan Larson playmaking at point, Jake Prince working hard as a forward, Sy Chatman explosively scoring off the bench, and then King nailing jumpers.
The crazy thing is that all of these players are back making the Raiders one of the top two or three contenders in Class AAAA. And they have big expectations for 2017-18.
“We have a very talented group of guys,” King said. “I love my teammates, our team goal is to come together as a team and win state. We lost last year first round to Apple Valley but I’m feeling very confident. We only lost two seniors this year so we have basically the whole team back.”
What is King’s focus to improvement for his junior season? “My defense and ball handling” he told Prep Hoops.
“My goal is to get better at all aspects of the game, get in the weight room, and help my team in anyway that I can to win state.”
King also has a personal goal for his future. “One goal that I’ve always had even though I’m the youngest on the team would be to be a captain.”
King worked on many of those things this 16U season playing with both Howard Pulley and Minnesota Select. He started with Pulley and then gave Select a big time shooting weapon in the summer.
“My AAU season started off pretty slow,” King said to NHR. “I played for Howard pulley at the beginning of the year, it wasn’t a very good fit for me. It’s a great program with great coaches but I didn’t feel like I fit in there.
“I didn’t have a team for about two weeks then Minnesota Select picked me up and I ran with them for the rest of the season.
“I took a lot from this season. I worked hard on my game not just my jump shot but starting driving more and being an all around player on all aspects of the game. I feel like I have gotten so much better sense last winter.
“The competition was great. There weren’t a lot of games where we just killed a team, a lot of close good games and those games really helped me with my decision making on the court. It was a great experience for me this AAU season.”
During the 16U season Jaeden camped down at Augustana and did so well that he was offered a scholarship by the recent D2 national champions.
“Augustana University is who I hear from the most,” King said. “I just received a full ride scholarship from them about two months ago.
“Others that are talking to me and showing interest would be Wisconsin-Milwaukee, South Dakota, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Concordia-St Paul, and Winona State, and I just received a recruiting letter from Iowa.”
