Recruiting Report: Eric Turner (2018)
There have been plenty of Baltimore players on the move this summer. Not just because their respective AAU teams travel around the country, but in terms of transferring high schools as well. Whether it’s due to a better academic scenario, a better fit basketball wise, or other reasons, players have began seeking the best possible situation for their recruitment. 2018 guard Eric Turner is a name on that list.
Turner officially transferred from St. Frances Academy to Milford Mill Academy to play his senior season.
“It was just a better situation for me that offered more playing time,” Turner told PrepHoops. “It lets me get out there more and show the coaches and players what I got.”
The 6’5 wing has a college-ready body and athleticism already, now he’s focused on tuning up the technicalities of his game in order to reach his full potential. This summer he played for Crusader Nation’s 17U team to work on those improvements.
“My dribbling,” Turner said. “I know I’m going to play more of a guard in college, so I want to get better dribbling and just knocking down open shots.”
Where Turner thrives is in transition when his athleticism can be showcased. When the opportunity presents itself, Turner can finish above the rim, but more importantly, he can fight through contact and finish plays because of his strength.
Defensively, he’s very active in passing lanes. He has good anticipation, though once he gets to the college level, it’s more about being discipline and not gambling because good teams will make you pay for it every single time. His physicality makes him a solid rebounder and should transition well in college due to his body and effort level.
Turner holds one offer from Wagner with interest from schools like Bucknell, Loyola (MD), East Carolina and Central Connecticut State.
A player that Turner tends to study often is Paul George. The effort and the fact that George is a prominent two-way player is what stands out to Turner most. Turner will be a big piece for the Millers this season as they try and redeem themselves after losing in the Baltimore County Championship last season to the 4A Class champions, the Perry Hall Gators.
