Recruiting Report: Darrick Jones (2020)
Darrick Jones, a class of 2020 wing at Millwood School, is expected to make a significant jump in production during the upcoming high school season. If his strong play during the AAU season with 15U Team Loaded VA is any indication, don’t be surprised to see him put up more consistent numbers for Head Coach Brandon Jones.
“I think I’m a combo wing. Something different. An athletic wing. Whenever I attack the basket, just watch out,” Jones, a lefty, jokingly said of his overall game. “My right hand is underrated.”
Jones, who says he was just 5’4 in fifth grade, recorded his first ever dunk in sixth grade at age 11. Now around 6’5, the rising sophomore has solidified himself as a sure fire division one prospect. Jones currently holds four offers: from Virginia Tech, UMass, Old Dominion, and Winthrop. He is still not satisfied however, and continues to work every day.
“I’ve been working on my jump shot a lot. It’s gotten better, but I still work on that every day,” Jones, a 3.5 GPA student, explained. “I’m also working on pushing up the ball in transition. Handling it more.”
What can Jones bring to a college program?
“My athleticism. The ability to push the ball up the floor. Get rebounds. Blocks hots. And still my shooting. But I’ll just contribute as a team player.”
