Recruiting Report: Darius Jackson (2018)
Plaquimine 6-foot-5 forward Darius Jackson is heading into his senior season under-recruited and ready to turn some heads.
A versatile wing, he says there’s been two school which have inquired about him indirectly. But he’s seen so direct college interest come in just yet.
“My coach told me that ULL (Lafayette) and Southern were asking about me, and he told me that ULL would be coming to watch me play this high school season,” said Jackson, PHLA’s 51st-ranked 2018.
“That’s all my coach has told me about, so I don’t know about the rest.”
A slasher who’s able to adeptly play several different positions, Jackson defined his skill-set in his own words.
“I’m best at driving to the hole, and I’ve been working on my 3-point shot a lot lately,” said Jackson.
“At my school, my coach will have me play the two or the three, and sometimes even point guard. I like to shoot over smaller people, and if a guy is smaller than me I’ll take them inside and post them up.”
Jackson’s been busy this offseason; he was playing summer league with his high school team during the spring, and in July he was in Texas and Las Vegas at high profile grassroots tournaments.
“It was a good experience to go to Las Vegas, and in Texas, we made it to the championship bracket and went 4-1, so it was good,” he said.
Now, just a few months removed from his senior season, Jackson says a state title and more recruitment are the top two goals.
“This year I’ve been working hard, and I’m striving for a championship, because last we got close but fell short. My personal goal is to go for player of the year in Louisiana,” said Jackson.
“And hopefully I can get some bigger schools to check me out.”
