Recruiting Report: Courtney Brown Jr (2019)
Courtney Brown Jr was one of the elite scorers in his grade during the 2016-17 season and is a top five talent among the juniors-to-be in Minnesota.
It was a 19.6 point per game year for Brown as an East Ridge Raptor sophomore. East Ridge has a big future in front of them with Ben Carlson, Kendall Brown, and Courtney Brown Jr in the program. But they were even better than expected than last year collecting 22 wins.
Brown kept his winning ways going stepping off the Howard Pulley bench and providing defense and energy for the 35-10 Panthers. He rebounded well in his minutes, Courtney hit half of the shots he took in all the Pulley EYBL/Peach Jam games, and like we said earlier Brown showed to be a better defender than people knew.
“The year went great, it was a lot of fun playing with some of the guys I’ll be playing against in the upcoming high school season,” Brown said about his Howard Pulley teammates. “My biggest take away from this EYBL year is how much faster and more competitive the game is than high school.”
As an explosive young player Brown was able to hit corner jumpers and actively get 20 a game for a top ten big school team in Minnesota. And he feels there is a lot he can do better going forward.
“I’m looking to improve on everything but specifically ball handling and attacking the basket,” Courtney told Prep Hoops.
Between Brown in 2019, Carlson in 2020, and Courtney’s brother Kendall in 2021, East Ridge has guys in each of those classes that is at the minimum a top five player in his class. The future is bright plus the team just added a top coach in Bryce Tesdahl.
“We’re looking pretty good at East Ridge, mostly young guys coming back who played last year and our goal is of course to make it to state.”
Courtney was offered by North Dakota several months back and continues to hear from them, and others.
“I just heard from DePaul today but Denver, North Dakota, Miami of Ohio, and Nebraska-Omaha I would say are in contact the most,” Brown said.
College opportunity will come along with success through Courtney’s junior year. A year that Brown has big plans for.
“My goal is to become a leader and help my team to as many wins as possible,” Brown said.
