Recruiting Report: Colin Shaw (2018)
Colin Shaw (2018) carries a 4.25 GPA and scored a 29 on his ACT score. In uncovering the thinking process of his eventual college decision, academics are overwhelmingly the most important factor.
“My #1 right now would maybe be Swarthmore College in Philadelphia,” Shaw told Prep Hoops.
Swarthmore was the only school Shaw, a 6’3” guard from Indian Hill, even made mention of during the interview, although he led on that other D-IIIs have reached out.
“It’s a great school. I have been out there twice and I think I’m probably going to go back out this fall. I love the coaching staff out there. They’ve been very competitive and have been kind of on the uprise these past few years basketball wise, which is really exciting to me,” Shaw said.
“I’ve talked to them a lot. From our conversations it seems like they want me to be there and I really like it as well. It’s definitely a good option for me.”
From talking to Shaw, he seems rather set on Swarthmore. But he’s not in any rush to make an official decision quite yet.
“For me it’s just making sure I make the right decision and getting the right fit personally.”
Shaw was a key member for Shining Star (Price) during the grassroots season. He also entered the 1,000-point club as a junior for his high school.
“My ability to score in different ways is something that is kind of unique. My mid-range game, something that I think not a whole lot of people work on any more, I’d say that’s probably my biggest strength,” Shaw said.
“I think I can score from anywhere on the floor, but mid-range is where I can kind of separate myself.”
Shaw is more than a three-level scorer for Indian Hill though. As a junior he averaged 7.7 rebounds to go along with the 18 points (46-30-75 shooting splits).
“For our high school team, especially at times when we lack size, it’s important for me to be able to guard really all five positions. That’s something that I’ve worked on in the past few years as well. Making sure I know really how to do that and be the most effective defender that I can be,” Shaw said.
Going forward, Shaw is working on his body and decision making. He can also be found on the football field for Indian Hill this fall.
Once the basketball season comes back around, Shaw will surely remind all of us how much of a factor he will be for a D-III program during his college career.
