Recruiting Report: Carter Henry (2019)
Carter Henry’s 2017 included him helping a veteran CMC team to the state tournament and being a part of a SW Mn Stars 16u State Championship team.
“I have had a great experience with my team and coaches,” Carter said about playing with the Southwest MN Stars. “I came into the program not knowing what to expect and they blew me away.
“It’s more of a family than a team. I learned so much from this season and became a much better player. I’m more confidant and my skills continue to improve. Stars basketball is exactly what I needed.”
Not many teams had the team comradery that the Stars did with some of the best team basketball played at the 16u level and one of the most excitable benches I’ve ever seen in AAU basketball.
This was truly a team that enjoyed when their teammates had success and Henry was like the rest of the crew, always excited when the Stars played well.
Everyone on the Stars team played their role well, they didn’t have one clear star. That said Henry is a wide shouldered, explosive 6-foot-7 power forward with developing skills. He plays with energy and is still learning the game.
There is a load of potential to Carter Henry as he enters his junior year as he can physically do things that others can’t. The size, agility, explosiveness, and effort is there. Now he wants the skills to match his potential.
“Before the season starts I am working on my ball handling and shooting ability,” Carter said.
Central Minnesota Christian went 27-5 led by a senior dominated team. They played in the state tournament and at the start of the year even Henry had a hard time cracking into the senior line-up. But as the year went on Carter’s rare ability at the Class A level was used to help the team get to state.
And just like that Carter is the leader of this team as most of the line-up is no longer in high school.
“We lost a lot of talent this year, losing seven seniors, but I think if we play well as a team we can make a run deep into the playoffs,” Carter said. “This winter I would like to see us go to state again.”
Local schools have started to recruit Carter with the hope that the division one level doesn’t learn about who he is.
“I’m hearing from Minnesota State-Mankato, Bethel University, Northwestern University, University of Sioux Falls, Augustana, and Jamestown,” Henry said.
For Henry he is simply worried about this winter. Central Minnesota Christian is now his team as he is the only guy back with experience.
“I want to be a good leader for all my teammates being the only returning varsity player,” Carter said.
