Prospect Spotlight: Tyan Brinar (2019)
Former Hillcrest guard, Tyan Brinar, will take his savvy and court awareness to Brighton this season, and hopefully he’ll be able to play.
His transfer is pending with the UHSAA, and he’s also battling an injured shoulder. But if all is clear by November, the Bengals will receive a 6-foot-2 junior playmaker.
“I think the best way I impact things on the court is with my court-vision, like seeing things before they actually happen. That’s probably the main thing I’m best at, is playmaking. And defense is another thing I take a lot of pride in,” said Brinar.
“I can get better at everything, but one main thing would be to just get quicker on my feet and being able to shoot more consistently.”
Last spring a he was in a car accident and “messed up” his shoulder a bit. Since then, he’s been at physical therapy working on that. He’s been shooting some, but hasn’t been working out extensively or playing grassroots ball since.
“I had a lot of plans heading into the summer and that happened, and it just kind of set me back a little bit,” said Brinar.
Now, he’s starting to attend some shootarounds and open gyms for his new team, Brighton.
Brinar explained why it was he made the switch in schools.
“The main reason why I switched was because my brother graduated (from Hillcrest). I’d been kind of wanting to get out of there for awhile, I just wasn’t fully committed to being at Hillcrest,” he said. “But I still enjoyed every minute of it.”
As he heads into his junior season with his new team — as long as the UHSAA lets him — he’s hoping to make a major impact as soon as possible.
“I’ve gone to a couple of open gyms and shootarounds. As far as the season, I’m going through the transfer rule stuff to see if I can play this year. It’s going good so far, I’m just waiting to hear back from them,” said Brinar.
“If I can play this year, hopefully I can start varsity.”
