Prospect Spotlight: Sam Griffin (2019)
Westminster Academy is going to love the new addition of rising junior Sam Griffin.
A former student-athlete at Miami-Norland, Griffin is taking his talents to Westminster in an effort to help them win a second-straight state championship. At the Raptors Elite ID4 Invitational, he showed everything he’s capable of bringing to the table.
On defense, he’s a nuisance. He doesn’t shy away from getting up in a ball-handlers’ space and making them think twice. He knows how to keep his hands actively in the passing lanes, force turnovers and create fast-break opportunities for his team. Once it gets going, Griffin is one of the quickest up the floor you’ll see.
On offense, he has a solid three-point stroke. When I saw him play, there were a couple he hit from college range with ease. But at the end of the day, Griffin says he practices his defensive skills with a different type of zeal.
“When you get better at defense, that’s how you win,” Griffin said. “Your team gets going, everyone gets hype.”
Switching back to his offensive game, he also has a zest for setting his teammates up and getting the squad involved. Leadership is one of the most important things to Griffin. Whether on the floor, or on school grounds, he aims to be a guy that others can depend on.
