Prospect Spotlight: Jarius Key (2018)
Jarius Key is a 6’6 small forward from Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, KY. Last season Bowling Green brought home the Kentucky “Sweet Sixteen” state tournament championship, winning 36 games – losing two all season. “Last season was a really good experience. Coming out on top at state was incredible,” said Key in regard to his junior season with the Purples. Key averaged 5.1 points and 4 rebounds. You can expect those numbers to improve during his senior campaign. BGHS graduated Mr. Basketball candidate and now-Austin Peay freshman Terry Taylor, as well top high school freshman in the country Zion Harmon (Adair County) to a transfer.
Next season Jarius says the goal remains the same. “For the team, I want to get back to state. For myself, I’d like to win 4th Region ‘Player of the Year ‘ and be in the Mr. Basketball race.”
This summer, Key played AAU basketball with Western Kentucky Elite. “The AAU season went ok. During high school summer ball, we only lost like two games.” Throughout the summer, Jarius has been working on on his pull-up jumper and shooting from 3-point range. “It’s really getting there and everyone will find that out this season.”
On the court, Jarius is a very aggressive player, capable of attacking the rim and finishing strong at the hole. He’s also a sound defender. In the classroom, he says that school comes first. “In the class I try and stay focused as much as possible and do what I need to do.”

Currently holding no offers, Key does have interest from Georgetown College, Asbury University, and Campbellsville University. Western Kentucky expresses some interest while Bowling Green participated in the Hilltoppers team camp.
