Prospect Introduction: Shawn Bonamy Jr. (2021)
2021 prospect Shawn Bonamy Jr. is entering high school.
The 5’8″ guard is going from Dunbar Middle to Dunbar High.
He started playing basketball in the 5th grade and was a starter for Dunbar Middle this past season.
At age 6, Bonamy Jr. suffered a huge blow as the U.S. took his mother away from him due to her papers. He says he never truly understood the impact until the age 12 when it all made sense.
“Since that, all happened I took ball to heart and I made promises to help my mother out with her struggles and basketball will be the only way,” Bonamy Jr. told Prep Hoops Florida. “I pray to God every day to tell him my goals that I want to achieve.”
Bonamy Jr. has four key goals besides succeeding in basketball: 1) help sick kids in the hospital, 2) support his mother and family, 3) help his community and 4) be a better person than he was yesterday.
He spent his second summer with High Hoops. The program was his first organized basketball team of his life.
“My main focus for high school is to make my team the best they can be and be the best teammate and bring Dunbar to a championship,” Bonamy Jr. said.
He wants to get bigger and be able to dunk by the end of his freshman season. He’s dunking alley oops as of now.
No offers or interest have come for the 2021 guard, but he pointed to FSU and Wisconsin as his two favorite college programs.
Bonamy Jr. is still coming together as a true teammate. He has benefited from being a part of High Hoops and that should give him a comfort level when it comes to the high school level at Dunbar this season.
