Powerhouse Hoops 15u Red
July 31st marked the end of AAU/Club Basketball season. As August begins, many student athletes are looking toward the start of a new school year and basketball season with their respective high school teams. One of the most successful teams in the state this summer was Powerhouse 15u Red. The “humble B/mid-level team” as they often referred to themselves beat teams from Chicago, Florida, California and Texas along the way to a club record of 31-8, 2 Championships [West Coast Elite (Las Vegas April 30th and Bigfoot Hoops Las Vegas Classic July 30th) ], and 3 Final 4’s.
Roster
Tyler Centner (2020) Flagstaff
Winston Brown (2020) Perry
Griffin Lamb (2020) Gilbert
Dayson Dush (2020) Desert Vista
Brycen Long (2020) Gilbert
Charlie Curtis (2020) Catalina Foothills
Jaqwaun Myles (2020) Gilbert
Michael Hanson (2020) Seton Catholic
Led by Coach Kirk Fauske (former Combs Head Coach and current Mountain Pointe lead assistant), the team used a dribble penetration system and tough trapping man-to-man defense to keep their opponents off balance. Though not the biggest team with only 2 players over 6ft tall, the team implemented a full court press and high energy as their winning formula. Charlie Curtis’ leadership and defensive intensity provide the fuel that the team ran on. Brycen Long (though a great all around player) was most notably a knock down shooters that hurt opponents when left open. Tyler Centner scored on set shots and countless backdoor cuts. Winston Brown was solid scoring on corner 3’s and floaters. Jaqwaun Myles led the team in steals and kept teams off balance with unstoppable drives to the basket. Forward Michael Hanson was a great inside-out threat offensively and was a beast on the boards while typically giving up several inches in height. Dayson Dush was the primary facilitator using his high basketball IQ to make plays. Griffin Lamb caused nightmares with his length defensively and great rebounding on both ends of the court.
Many members of the team received valuable varsity minutes during the June school period with their respective High School teams with some projected to be full time varsity players as sophomores. After such a successful AAU season the future is bright for these young men!
