Maryland/DC Summer Stock Boosters: 2019 Frontcourt
Maryland and DC were well represented on the grassroots circuit this summer. As the season winds down and many players return from AAU back to their high school squads, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the players who have raised their stock the most since last high school season. Below we take a quick look at five rising junior front court players who should see an uptick in their recruitment as a result of strong play this summer.
JASON MURPHY | CHAPELGATE CHRISTIAN
Jason Murphy was the most reliable big man for Team Melo 16U this summer, and he continues to show signs of improvement each time he hits the floor. The 6’8 power forward has taken recent visits to Virginia Tech, Old Dominion, GW, and Saint Joseph’s.
OLA OLAMUYIWA | ST. VINCENT PALLOTTI
One thing we absolutely love about Team St8ment’s Ola Olamuyiwa is that he plays as hard as he can at all times. The 6’9 center is a prideful rim protector, and has gotten much better on the offensive end. Florida International offered in July.
BASS DIOP | ST. FRANCES
Bass Diop, who was probably the most consistent big man for 16U Team Thrill, put on one of the most impressive performances we saw while in Vegas. The 6’8 forward, who picked up an offer from Hampton in May, should a play key role for a very good SFA team. Don’t be surprised to see more division one programs begin actively recruiting Diop.
CJ AMSELLEM | BULLIS
CJ Amsellem has been steady all summer for 16U 6th Man Warriors. The 6’7 lefty, who played great minutes for his high school squad in summer league, has gotten stronger and more athletic. Amsellem can protect the rim, score with his back to the basket, and stretch the floor a bit with his set shot.
YAVUZ GULTEKIN | JOHN CARROLL
Yavuz Gultekin, who recently arrived in the states from Turkey, made an excellent first impression in our first opportunity to evaluate him. He barely missed a shot while warming up, and we noticed during the game that he’s actually a very good shooter. The 6’7 lefty, who has already received an offer from Old Dominion, plays with a ton of energy on both ends of the floor.
