Junior Clay Talks Tech Visit
When a top 30 player in the state makes a move PrepHoops.com/Tennessee perks up.
Last Friday Junior Clay (PHT #27) alerted us that he will be checking out Tennessee Tech as soon as this upcoming weekend.
In fact, Junior Clay dropped by the Cookeville campus Thursday afternoon.
“I visited today actually,” said Junior Clay directly to PrepHoopsTN. “It was good. Really nice. I liked it.”
Clay checked out the arena, the weight room, dorms, and the cafeteria. Caden Mills (Tennessee Tech verbal) was visiting too. They enjoyed the hospitality of the OVC staff.
“I loved all the coaches,” said Clay. “They were really laid back and cool. The school was way more than what I expected, but nothing like the gym. I loved the arena.”
Remember the Golden Eagles offered Chattanooga Elite point guard Junior Clay (McCallie) late July.

This was an unofficial visit, but look for Junior Clay to get back in the coming months.
“They are trying to get me back on an official,” said Junior Clay. “I will probably get there for their homecoming. November fourth.”
Is Tennessee Tech the right fit? What is their pitch and how do they see him fitting into the OVC program?
“We really haven’t talked much about it, but I know they have a senior guard,” said Junior Clay. “They have five seniors I think. It will be a chance to come in a play right away.”
According to Clay the following schools are recruiting him: Presbyterian. UTC. Lincoln Memorial. Lees-McRae. Tennessee Tech. That is about it.
Peer Evaluation
Junior Clay played AAU with Mullek Bradford. They both have college interest. In fact, some of the same schools are intrigued like Presbyterian and Lincoln Memorial.
Bradford shared his evaluation of Clay’s game Wednesday evening.
“He is well-rounded,” said Mullek Bradford. “He is very aggressive. He can put the ball in the hoop.”
Clay and Bradford provided defenses with problems all July. Bradford continues to be impressed by Junior Clay’s devotion to the craft.
“He has that killer mentality. He is always working on his game.”
Junior Clay is up to 150 pounds and nipping the six foot mark.
“I think he needs to get bigger, as far as weight room,” said Bradford. “As long as he can get stronger he will be fine. He can handle really well. He has a quick first step. I think he will be fine.”
Bradford does not project any problems for Junior Clay at the next level. He admits Clay gets his shot off over taller players with quickness and craftiness.
Junior does not have any other visits planned at this time, aside from the likely official to Tennessee Tech. His season’s practices begin October 30th.
