Introducing Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (2021)
A potential national Top 50 player in the 2021 class resides in Clarksville. Chances are you haven’t even heard of him yet. That could change as soon as this weekend. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield is a 6’7 wing who just turned 14 less than a week ago. Already a fluid athlete, Huntley-Hatfield projects to keep growing and could resemble Kevin Durant in frame and build by the time he graduates from Clarksville Academy in 2021. Brandon has a good jump shot that he easily gets off over smaller defenders. He already shows an ability to score on traditional bigs by pulling them away from the basket. He can take smaller defenders to the block and punish them in the paint. I recently caught up with Huntley-Hatfield to discuss his AAU season, his upcoming high school season and the CP3 Rising Stars camp that he will attend this weekend in North Carolina.
PHTN: Describe your game. What do you do best? What are you working to improve? Do you model your game after anyone?
BHH: I can shoot the ball pretty well just like a shooting guard. For me, I really don’t know what I do best, I’m really an all around player. I can do it all and I also can play the 1-5. I try my best to model my game after Kevin Durant.
PHTN: Recap your AAU season. Were you happy with how you played?
BHH: I felt like I played pretty well. Now that I’ve got my name out there, I just have to go 20x harder next year.
PHTN: It’s obviously very early in your recruiting, but have you heard from any colleges? What’s your dream school?
BHH: I haven’t heard from any schools yet but my dream school is The University of Kentucky.
PHTN: What are you looking for in a college?
BHH: Just a college that fits my game and helps me develop into a better player while I pursue my dream to be drafted to the NBA.
PHTN: You’re heading to the prestigious CP3 Rising Stars camp this weekend. What are your expectations for the camp?
BHH: Just to show the national scouts what I’m really about. I’m really working to get my name out there more and develop my game and my skills.
PHKY: What are your goals for the upcoming HS season?
BHH: Just to help my team to a successful season. I now understand my role with them needing to score for us to win. In my high school career, I want to score 2,000 points and be nominated for a McDonald’s All American.
Huntley-Hatfield has all the intangibles you want to see in a high major prospect. Already legitimately 6’7 and potential to grow to 7 foot tall while possessing guard skills, he could be a name that is all over the 2021 national rankings for years to come. It’s blasphemous to say any 14 year old could be the next Kevin Durant but Huntley-Hatfield’s frame and skill set call KD to mind. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield is a name to track for the 2017-18 season and beyond. If he reaches his potential, he could be the next in a long line of high major talent produced by the Volunteer State.
