Intro: Justin Eagins (2019)
Downers Grove South rising junior Justin Eagins is quickly seeing his stock move up the board in the 2019 class. The 6’2” guard has combo type skills. Plays primarily off the ball, but when put in ball screens shows a nice feel for getting others involved in the pick and roll. Plus shooter especially pulling up from behind screens. The lefty has a sweet looking shot from deep. One to continue to monitor!
He chatted with PHI about his summer with Kessel Heat 16U.
“It has gone well. Better than I expected at first. We have a lot of our guys playing undersized, but we have got around that and learned how to win. I have been playing well. I just need to get better on defense and getting my teammates open.”
What are the strengths of his game?
“I pretty much like to shoot off the dribble and attacking when the defender is close. Using my ability to handle the ball to get to the rim.”
Eagins broke down his sophomore season at DGS.
“Last year went well. We should have won conference at the sophomore level, but myself and Wes (Hooker) got moved up. On varsity I got to learn a lot of things and got to experience things you don’t on the sophomore level.”
With the graduation of several D1 prospects it will be a different team this upcoming season.
“It is going well. We are a lot like our Kessel Heat team. We are undersized, but we play together. We should do good come November and make a good playoff run. I think my role will be being the main guy and leading the team. Making sure everyone is in the right spots. For myself make sure I am getting them the ball. Being a great leader for our team.”
