Intro: Alex Wood (2020)
Class of 2020 point guard Alex Wood is a quick and shifty guard from Normal U-High. He is extremely quick off the bounce and knows how to get in the lane with his ball handling and speed. High basketball IQ and is always in control of the game. Mixes in threes to his repertoire as well.
Wood made noise with Young & Reckless 15U this spring and summer.
“It has really helped me improve my game watching these guys do different moves. Coach Stan (Boateng) has really helped me get noticed and get my name out there for college coaches. It was a great experience.”
In June he went back to his high school team at Normal U-High where he will have to be the key player with the absence now of Kai Bates-Diop and Keondre Schumacher.
“It was a good chance for us to see where we are. It was a good couple games where we couldn’t really figure out what we wanted to do so I think that summer stretch really helped us find ourselves and what we need to do to improve and win games during the season.”
How did he feel he performed?
“I think I did well. I think I need to get my teammates involved more because they are really good and do a good job of giving me the ball so I need to give them the ball more to help us win games.”
Wood broke down what he likes to do on the floor.
“I feel do well getting to the basket. Either finishing or dishing off to teammates. I feel like my shot is pretty good too. I just need to improve on being a leader and helping my teammates find where they need to go. I think that will really help take my game to the next level and get noticed more.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have a little interest from SIU and Illinois State. I went to the Wisconsin camp. That was really good for me. I am doing pretty well I just need to keep improving my game and it will all come to me.”
