Future Tar Heel: Jeremiah Francis (Free)
One of the top 2019 prospects in the country, Jeremiah Francis out of Pickerington Central High School in Ohio made the call to commit to North Carolina last week. PrepHoopsNC’s Justin Byerly spoke with Francis about his decision and discussed his upcoming season.
Justin Byerly: First off, congrats on picking North Carolina.
Jeremiah Francis: Thank you !
Justin Byerly: What were the main reasons that you chose to be a Tar Heel?
Jeremiah Francis: I wanted to became a Tar Heel because of the tradition and people at Chapel Hill love some basketball ! And also it’s really hard to say no to Coach Williams!
Justin Byerly: You come from a basketball family, what influence have your parents had in your career?
Jeremiah Francis: Yes they have a lot of influence in my life luckily my dad and mom were both athletes in college and knew what it took to get into a Division I school, also my father being a college coach for 20+ years helped as well but they always kept me hungry!
Justin Byerly: What was your recruitment from your standpoint, playing well enough this summer then UNC offered. Who made the initial offer? Roy? Hubert?
Jeremiah Francis: Coach Williams made the official offer , they actually saw me a lot while recruiting Sterling Manley , so they were interested then but wanted to see how I perform in the AAU circuit with better competition , and Coach Williams saw something in me . They said they just love how hard I compete on both ends of the floors , how I lead the team, just me being a natural PG what they love about me.
Justin Byerly: What are your goals over the next two seasons to get ready for Chapel Hill?
Jeremiah Francis: My goals are prolly just get bigger upper body area, become more athletic for the ACC competition , getting my jump shot more consistent as well .
Justin Byerly: You are next in line at a school that produces some really great Point Guards. Over the last 10 years which PG at UNC does your game resemble the most?
Jeremiah Francis: They compared me to Ty Lawson , just how I play downhill , lead the team and compete defensively .
