DMV’s Top Shooting Backcourts
In anticipation of the upcoming high school season, we will be taking a closer look at various teams and players throughout the DMV. Below we take a closer look at the top shooting back courts in the DC Metro Area. The list is organized in no particular order.
FLINT HILL | ’18 ISAIAH MOORE & ’18 NICK STERN
Flint Hill will probably shock some opponents this year, and Isaiah Moore could be a big reason why. Alongside sharpshooting classmate Nick Stern, Moore hopes to keep opposing defenses off balance. Both players provide outstanding spacing while on the floor, and don’t need much time to get their shot off.
GEORGETOWN PREP | ’18 JARED BYNUM & ’19 KAMDYN CURFMAN
While it remains to be seen just how often Jared Bynum and Kamdyn Curfman are on the floor together, there is no question that each of them can shoot it well from the perimeter. We’ve seen Bynum light up opponents consistently form the perimeter during his productive tenure as Prep’s starting lead guard, and Curfman is widely considered a top shooter in the DMV is certainly the best on his team.
GONZAGA | ’18 PRENTISS HUBB & ’18 MYLES DREAD
While Myles Dread is considered a versatile player that doesn’t always necessarily play in the back court, we don’t doubt his ability to make threes as he was one of the most reliable shooters for Team Takeover this summer. Silky smooth lefty Prentiss Hubb will likely be asked to score more this year, and we might see his three point attempts and makes increase significantly.
O’CONNELL | ’18 MATT BECHT ’18 XAVIER JOHNSON
Matt Becht is considered the best shooter in the DMV. The Mount St. Mary’s commit has limitless range, a quick release, and a great understanding of the game. While Xavier Johnson is certainly not considered a knock down shooter, he is often overlooked in that department because of his constant ability to get into the lane where he is best.
PALLOTTI | ’18 STEVE CANNADY & ’19 RONELL GILES
One of the most memorable moments from summer league was when Ronell Giles and Steve Cannady “argued” to see who would shoot the free throw after their opponent was charged with a technical foul. Both guards are unselfish, but supremely confident in their abilities. Cannady, the playmaker and floor general for Pallotti, can shoot it equally well off the dribble and from the catch. Giles, the versatile scorer and playmaker, is a knock down three point shooter off the catch with a very good mid range pull up.
PAUL VI | ’19 ANTHONY HARRIS & ’20 JEREMY ROACH
Anthony Harris shot over 45% from three this summer on the EYBL. The highly skilled and confident guard made timely shots on numerous occasions. In his time playing up with the 17U Squad, Jeremy Roach managed to make 3 of 6 from deep. This duo works as hard as any in the region, and the results they produce are impressive. Don’t sleep on Miles Latimer, the Stony Brook commit is also a very good shooter, and is expected to play a key role in the back court this year.
SIDWELL FRIENDS | ’18 SADDIQ BEY & ’19 JASON GIBSON
In the local 2019 class, you aren’t many better shooters in the area than Jason Gibson. He is tough as nails, and remarkably consistent in making shots from “downtown”. While Saddiq Bey will likely play asked to play all over the floor, , and is certainly skilled and confident enough to play guard. Don’t be surprised to see the 6’7 senior running the point at times with Gibson off the ball.
