DC, Maryland, Virginia Freshman Watch List (Part 1)
In anticipation of the upcoming high school season, we will be taking a closer look at various teams and players in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. In part one of our freshman watch list, we highlight some of the summer’s biggest class of 2021 standouts.
CHACE DAVIS | ST. ANDREW’S EPSICOPAL
Chace Davis was one of the most dynamic guards on a very good 14U Team Takeover squad this summer, and has a chance to play significant minutes as a freshman for Head Coach Kevin Jones at St. Andrew’s Episcopal. The competitive and versatile guard had a strong run of play at future all american camp, and looks poised for a productive season.
TREVOR KEELS | PAUL VI
Trevor Keels, considered a top freshman in not just the area but nationally, is coming off an excellent summer with Team Takeover. We saw the type of impact he can make with his high school club back at Maryland Team Camp. Keels is a gym rat with a high basketball IQ, and should fit in nicely on arguably the best high school team in the DMV.
BYRON IRELAND JR. | ANNAPOLIS AREA CHRISTIAN
Despite his team struggling at DeMatha Summer League, Byron Ireland Jr. quietly held his own in his first varsity experience. The crafty rising freshman, who started and played significant minutes in summer league, could play a key role in the back court alongside one of the best seniors in Maryland.
VICTORY NABOYA | ST. JOHN’S
Victory Naboya may or may not play big minutes this year, but there’s no question he has a chance to be a major contributor down the road for Cadets HC Pat Behan. The long limbed 6’9 big man runs the floor well, has good touch, and is an athletic rim protector.
QUADIR PETTAWAY | HAMPTON ROADS ACADEMY
Quadir Pettaway had no problems playing up with 16U Boo Williams on the EYBL. The silky smooth playmaker, who already holds offers from Hampton, James Madison, and Old Dominion, exhibits very good scoring prowess from the perimeter.
