Big Shots MB VA Blaze & NOVA Gamechangers Standouts
VA Blaze 2018 PG Michael Truong: He’s what we would call a downhill guard, when he gets a small amount of momentum he is difficult to stop. He has multiple moves that he uses to break down defenses and does a really good job finishing over bigger opponents. Has decent size or a PG but most importantly is the attitude he brings to the floor, he doesn’t back down from a challenge.
VA Blaze 2018 PF Jarvis Vaughan: The 6’8 big man did the things that you like to see from a youngster that plays the Power Forward and Center positions. He rebounded the ball well while keeping the ball high until he makes the outlet pass, although he didn’t look to score first, he did a good job of completing plays and finishing inside. He embraced contact well and blocked shots at a decent rate, a solid prospect with nice upside.
VA Blaze 2019 Lawson Quinn: One of the more intriguing prospects at the event, he’s still finding his way on the court but you can see the talent and potential. He’s a youngster that is homeschooled so that may factor in to his development at this point but there is one thing you can teach, and that is size.
NOVA GameChangers 2019 Guard Eric Peake: One of the best shooters at the event, he caught fire in their matchup with the SC Tigers catching fire from the right corner. At 5’7 he’s undersized for a player at the SG spot but schools on the D3 and NAIA level should keep an eye on him over the next two years.
NOVA GameChangers 2019 Guard Brendan Leverone: He reminds me a lot of Butler Guard Tyler Lewis who played his final high school season at Oak Hill Academy. He brings a workman like attitude to the game but is a very skilled player. He handles the ball very well and doesn’t allow himself to be sped up, his best attribute is his passing, and he sees the floor well and can make difficult passes look easy.
