The 2020 rankings are no longer a watch list. Most of these young man have now had the chance to play one high school and club season in which we could evaluate. In this first ranking update, we will look at the top five prospects of the class of 2020.
2020 Rankings: Top 5
Nico Mannion 6’0 PG Pinnacle (Earl Watson Elite)
Mannion’s performances this summer demonstrate that he is far from peaking. Many people wondered how much better he can get after such a strong freshman year. If you are still wondering, watch some of his game tape with Italy. He has found another level athletically. His vertical and lateral quickness have continued to improve while his stop and start movements have gotten better off of the dribble. Mannion is the real deal.
Jason Harris Jason Harris 6'7" | PF Higley | 2020 State #242 Nation AZ 6’8 PF Higley (Splash City)
Harris is as much of a physical specimen as there can be in high school. With his build and athleticism, he is a big time basketball and football prospect. His uncoachables are enough to warrant a double take. However, he is more than just shear athlete. He brings plenty of skill to the game and is capable of playing a stretch four and potentially the 3 at a high level.
Xavier Dusell Xavier Dusell 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2020 State #299 Nation AZ 6’3 SG Chaparral (Team Harden)
Dusell, like Harris and Nelson who are also in the top five of the 2020 rankings, made the decision to transfer after his freshman year. He is a skilled guard who can shoot it as well as anyone in the state. Further, he has worked relentlessly on his guard skills as a means of transitioning to more of a point guard. He also brings elite level athleticism and intelligence. “X”, as his teammates and coaches call him, is a special prospect who is far from reaching his potential.
Tosh Baker 6’8 PF/C Pinnacle (Splash City)
Baker has worked on his game tirelessly to become more of a stretch four who can put the basketball on the floor. While this is still a work in progress, Baker has a soft touch around the rim and a good frame. Further, he has good footwork on the block and understands how to create shots for himself. As he continues to work more and more on his motor, his upside will continue to sky rocket.
Evan Nelson Evan Nelson 6'1" | PG Salpointe | 2020 State #184 Nation AZ 6’3 PG Salpointe (PowerHouse Hoops Black)
Nelson is yet another lengthy and skilled guard participating with PowerHouse. He has recently made a decision that could change the landscape of 4A as he leaves Mountain View for Salpointe. Deng with benefit greatly from another versatile player who is capable of filling up the stat sheet in a hurry. In addition to being a stat sheet stuffer, Nelson has a high basketball IQ and does a good job of putting his teammates in a position to be successful.
