Fulfilling a Dream: Stock Raisers State by State
In this article:
Every year kids look forward to their 17u season with the dream of playing well and building up college options. They dream of raising their stock. Today at Prep Hoops we go state by state through our network and give you an ultimate stock raiser. A guy that pushed himself beyond expectations and into several division one options. Out network of writers come together to give you the best of the best in the Stock Raisers category.
Arizona – Quentin Guliford
Quentin is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Liberty High School who looks to have a big season this year in hopes of taking Liberty back to the state tournament. Guliford showed flashes last year of what he was capable of doing. However, playing with the Arizona Factory has enabled him to play against some of the top competition in the nation. This has forced him to find another level.
California – Riley Battin/ Cameron Shelton
Battin of Oak Park and Earl Watson Elite went from being a low to mid-major guy to getting offers from schools like Vanderbilt, Utah, Colorado and Ohio State. He’s going to go down in the California state record books as one of the top scorers and rebounders the state has ever seen, but has been doubted a lot due to lack of athleticism. of Damien and Earl Watson Elite picked up an offer from Northern Arizona in late July and I think is one of the more under-appreciated players in the area. He’s 6-2, 175 pounds, all muscle and motor. He’s a super versatile defender and is absolutely relentless with his motor.
Colorado – Bodie Hume
Bodie is from Sterling, Colorado where he is a three sport standout. This summer he was a D2 kid but a big July led to ten division one offers from including local options Air Force, Denver, and Northern Colorado and Bodie selected Northern Colorado.
Florida – McLeon Charles
A 6-foot-3 wing from DME Academy, also played for MTE Diamonds and went from complete unknown to receiving offers from d2 schools and interest from low d1 schools. Won MVP awards throughout the summer tournaments.
Georgia – Amanze Ngumezi
The 6-foot-8 power forward from 1 Family took advantage of a packed gym of college coaches for his team and built that into offers from Illinois, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, and so many more. He had a solid spring building options but the floor came in late July.
Illinois – Zion Griffin
Zion (of Hoopers Basketball Club/Hinsdale South HS) is 6’6″ small forward who went from a D2 offer from St. Cloud State in the early spring to 15+ D1 offers including multiple high majors. Went for huge games against four EYBL teams in Kansas City in July. Griffin cut his list to four schools recently: Illinois State, Iowa State, Pittsburgh, and Kansas.
Indiana – Myja White
What can a hot three weeks of shooting do for a guy? Ask 6-foot-1 guard Myja White! He had no options but then exploded with his touch and then options quickly came in. Started with Morehead State and Indianapolis followed shortly after by Navy, Western Illinois, Ball State, Miami of Ohio, and Florida Southern. White now has a ton of options. That’s a big stock raiser.
Iowa- Trayvon Williams
A supremely athletic wing, Williams (from West Des Moines Valley and Kingdom Hoops) has started to put everything together on both ends of the floor, becoming a lockdown wing defender and a go-to scoring threat with his ability to get to the rim. He’s been rewarded with a South Dakota State offer.
Kansas – Cooper Kaifes
Kaifes of MoKan Elite is a top shooter in the entire state of Kansas and probed his worth this summer, blowing up on the Nike EYBL scene for MoKan Elite. Kaifes hit big shot after big shot and should see his offers grow come winter time. Missouri State, Oral Roberts, Northern Iowa, Drake, UNCG, and Chicago-Loyola offered.
Kentucky – Carter Hendricksen/Cooper Robb
Carter was a D2 kid who is now a D1 talent. Carter is from Lexington Christian/Lexington Future, he’s a 6’9 stretch four and had Bellarmine and Georgetown College offers before getting North Florida offer in July. He never played AAU before this July. No offers to D1 would be Cooper Robb. Cooper got two D1 offers and a D2 after going head to head with Zion Williamson at Best of the South. Committed to Charlotte when they offered.
Louisiana – Jared Butler
A 6’3 point guard from Mississippi Express EYBL and Riverside High School that played his way into the national rankings and is now down to six schools: Wichita State, Texas, USC, Alabama, Baylor, and Virginia. Butler had a few options coming into the spring but quickly became a double figure offer major conference player.
Maryland – Matthew Balanc
Matt Balanc is a 6’3 guard out of Springbrook High School. He plays AAU for Mid Atlantic Select. In April he had 0 offers. Once May came around, a few came in. It wasn’t until the live period that he absolutely exploded. In the end, the kid entered the AAU season with 0 offers and ended up with 12 (11 Division I) including UMass, New Mexico, Rhode Island, La Salle, and others. He’s an athletic freak that has endless poster dunks. The big question came with his jumpshot off the dribble and this summer he proved to be efficient in that area.
Michigan – Markeese Hastings
Markeese is a 6’6 forward from Godwin Heights/1nation who went from zero D1 offers in April to now having 10 and counting. Hastings also got our vote as tournament MVP of the entire tournament we all covered in Grand Rapids. Buffalo, Elon, UWGB, Wyoming, and Detroit are among those that offered.
Minnesota – Joseph Hedstrom
The Hopkins center had a quiet 16u season in 2016 and a solid junior year at Hopkins High School. Hedstrom had an offer from North Dakota and then later received a winter offer from South Dakota. What he did putting up about 12/8 a game for the Minnesota Comets caught many with a pleasant surprise and Hedstrom is into double figure offers including one from Wisconsin.
Missouri – Joe Reece
Joe is a 6-foot-8 small forward from Vashon High School and the Ramey Jets. He’s gone from a borderline top 20 guy to one of top prospects in State. Seen as a Tayshaun Prince clone with high major potential. Kansas State, Missouri State, Saint Louis, Murray State, and others have offered.
Nebraska – Brady Heiman
Brady has widely been considered the top frontcourt prospect in Nebraska’s senior class but the question was if he would push his way into high major status. Late July games at the Adidas event against some of the nation’s best led to a Nebraska offer and Heiman took that offer a week ago.
New York – Souleymane Koureissi
The potential of the 6-foot-8 small forward at Iona Prep is what has so many schools continuing to follow up with Koureissi. Seton Hall, UMass, Duquesne, and George Washington all offered Souleymane after July. Minnesota, Rhode Island, and South Florida were the first teams to extend offers.
North Carolina – Jomaru Brown
A 6-foot-2 point guard from Raleigh that played with Team Wall Elite and earned himself options from Evansville, Radford, Stetson, Georgia Southern, and James Madison. Entered 17u play with no D1 options and left with five and counting.
Ohio – Jaxson Hayes
At 6’9 at power forward and center playing with 22 Vision and from Archbishops Moeller, Hayes had no D1 offers in March but played himself into 25 D1 options. The offers started at the low major level before Butler extended in late June and was followed by Xavier, Purdue, Illinois, Ohio State, New Mexico, Clemson, and others.
Oklahoma – Braden Boyer
Before the summer Braden Boyer was set to be one of the top Division II recruits in Oklahoma. Now after the summer Boyer had with BTR (Below The Rim) he holds two low Major Division I offers (including Air Force) and is rising up the ranks in the Sooner State. Boyer has good hands, footwork, and movement on the court. He will be a big man that Low Major Division I schools find a lot of interest in as his senior year continues.
Oregon – Filip Fullerton
A 6-foot-10 post from Southridge High School and Team Fly. Fullerton entered July with some mild interest and left with an offer from Portland State is seems close to adding a couple more options at the D1 level soon.
South Carolina – Grant Singleton
A 5’11 Lakewood HS (Sumter) point guard that played this summer with Team South Carolina after playing the spring with the SC Supreme. Singleton has played himself up in the new rankings for sure later this month and just brings it every night. Singleton is fearless and determined to compete at the next level. Region MVP last season for the Gators.
South Dakota – Aaron Fiegen
The 6-foot-6/6-foot-7 skilled power forward looked like a sure division two recruit over the winter when he led his team to the state title game. But his performances for the Dakota Schoolers and in camps led to a pair of D1 offers and getting on the list of many other schools. Aaron didn’t wait around for other programs as he quickly committed to South Dakota State.
Tennessee – Mark Freeman
Markylan is a six foot point guard from Southwind High in Memphis who had a couple previous D1 options but his play this 17u year lead to offers from Middle Tennessee, Bradley, ETSU, Long Island and other programs.
Texas – Reggie Chaney
Chaney is at Findlay Prep but is from Texas and plays with RM5 out of Texas. A 12/8 averaged Peach Jam has led to Chaney building up a load of different options. Arkansas, TCU, Wichita State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and VCU are after him the most but Chaney is a long ways from picking his school.
Washington – Bradley Graham
A 2020 guard that received from a broken leg to have a massive spring and summer showcasing flashy playmaking skills against some of the best guards he faced. At 5-foot-10 he is quick and tough to keep in front.
Wisconsin – Grant Basile
A 6-foot-8, power forward from Pewaukee, Wisconsin that played well for the Wisconsin Shooters leading to an early July offer from Coach Nagy at Wright State which Grant quickly jumped on.
