2018 G Keyshawn Embery talks move to IMG, top 5 and more
2018 guard Keyshawn Embery announced last Thursday that he’ll be attending IMG Academy this season.
Our Oklahoma writer Matt Reynolds broke down the move for Embery from Midwest City to IMG on that day (Read here).
The 6’3″, 195-pounder will officially arrive in Bradenton, Florida next Saturday. Here’s why he decided to leave his hometown to play at IMG.
“I made the decision because I felt it was best for me and what I’m trying to accomplish,” Embery told Prep Hoops Florida. “I’ve seen the facilities they are great. I see my senior season going really good there and try to win it all.”
Embery’s transfer couldn’t come at a better time for IMG. The program lost 2018 forwards Keyontae Johnson (Oak Hill) and Emmitt Williams (Oak Ridge) over the past few weeks. 2018 forward Silvio De Sousa is still the feature piece while the team earned a big plus from the transfer of 7’1″ center Chol Marial, a top 2019 prospect.
17 offers have come Embery’s way, but he’s down to his top five of Arizona State, Texas A&M, Butler, Arkansas and West Virginia.
Other offers sent his way were Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Oral Roberts, UNLV, Tulsa, Creighton, Houston, Purdue, Fordham, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.
He has nothing but kind memories from his time at Midwest City.
“Midwest City was great to me,” Embery said. “The relationships I built with people, even the teachers they made sure I got my stuff done. I learned that life isn’t easy and nothing is given to you and you have to work for it and that has been my mindset for a while.”
A high Division I prospect, Embery didn’t start playing the game of basketball until the 7th grade.
He calls his biggest strengths, his attacking and his ability to make his teammates better in all three phases. Embery wants to improve everything his game, saying “you can always get better.”
A humble and down to earth kid, Embery is going to be a huge difference maker at IMG. The team is going to look a whole lot different this season, but a trio of De Sousa, Marial and Embery is going to be fun to watch. Look for Embery to be an immediate leader on and off the court at his new stomping guards.
