Recruiting Report: Qwanzi Samuels (2018)
Qwanzi Samuels, a class of 2018 wing at St. John’s College High, is a candidate to break out this month. While he still has a lot to prove, the versatile 6’8 wing undoubtedly has high level potential.
“I’m a a long wing that plays hard, and does a lot of things that aren’t on the stat sheet,” Samuels explained. “I make the hustle plays. I’m a leader.”
It remains to be seen what type of role Samuels will have with St. John’s. The Cadets are considered to have one of, if not the deepest team in the area. Samuels certainly brings a lot of things to the table, and he has worked hard to develop various aspects of his game as his evolution continues.
“The most improved parts of my game are my defense, and my handle,” said Samuels. “I’m working on being more consistent at shooting threes, and driving to the basket stronger as well as my on ball defense.”
Samuels holds offers from Mount St. Mary’s, Saint Joseph’s, James Madison. UMass, Denver, Rhode Island, College of Charleston, Lehigh, Towson, Northwestern, Temple, Drexel, UMBC, GW, La Salle, UNCG, and Wagner are among those reportedly expressing interest. Samuels is running on the 17U Adidas Gauntlet for the second year in a row with Team BBC, formerly known as Baltimore Elite. What can he bring to a program at the next level?
“Leadership. A hard worker. Someone that will make the hustle plays that no one else wants to make.”
