Recruiting Report: Phillip Russell (2019)
Phillip Russell is headed towards his junior season.
The 6’5″, 192-pounder spent his last two years at Lincoln. The Trojans went 23-5 this past season falling 51-45 to Sickles in the Class 8A state title game.
Russell can play both guard spots and the wing. As of now, he’ll stay put as a 2019 prospect, but he says there is a chance he’ll reclassify to 2020.
“This past season I learned that I was an important part of my team as a sophomore. Attacking the hoop and getting my mid range jumper better was what I worked on the most,” Russell told Prep Hoops Florida. “I feel that this year I will lead my team back to the state championship and we will definitely win it.”
This is Russell’s first summer playing with the Showtime Ballers. He called it the best choice for him. He’s focused on taking his game to the next level with his current group.
Starting his basketball career at age 4, he pointed to his ability to get inside as an attacker and his passing his biggest strengths.
No offers have come yet for Russell, but he’s drawn interest from the likes of Florida Southern, Queens University of Charlotte, Montclair State, Ohio, University of Tampa, University of Charleston and Marshall.
Russell has a smoothness about him in his game. He knows there are things he can do to upgrade his overall work. For now, Russell is a young player who is coming into his own and should make a name for himself in 2017. He’s an ideal Division II player with low-Division I upside.
