Recruiting Report: Mac McClung (2018)
Has there been a bigger stock riser in the country this summer than Mac McClung? If so, the list is short. A class of 2018 point guard at Gate City, McClung has flourished on the spring and summer circuit with Team Loaded Virginia.
“First off a tough point guard who doesn’t back down to anything. And an athletic play maker,” McClung said about his overall game. “I’m good at driving gaps and angles.”
McClung put up gaudy numbers for Gate City during a very strong junior season, and all signs pointed to a breakout this summer. He has not disappointed, and college coaches have begun to take notice. McClung continues to showcase his high level athleticism, toughness, and relentless motor even at the highest level. One thing he is known for is being a gym rat, and having an extremely strong work ethic.

“In the last 12 months, I’ve been learning the game with pick/roll,” McClung explained. “I wanna become a more consistent shooter off the catch.”
Rutgers, Georgetown, Iowa state, Gonzaga, Marquette, and several others are actively recruiting McClung, who has received 20+ new offers since the spring. He’s just as consistent in the classroom, where he sports a 3.8 GPA. At virtually every event, McClung has found a way to steal the show one way or another. He was in vintage form at the Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest, and we’ve been fortunate to see the level of excitement he brings up close. What can McClung bring to a college program?
“A tough leader, and a winner.”
