Recruiting Report: Jacob Sala (2018)
A towering presence in the Earl Boykins Summer League, Jacob Sala (2018) always catches a double-take from courtside observers if only because he stands 6’8” and is one of the tallest players in the league.
A pure post player, Sala, Lakewood High, at this point projects as a finesse big who could play at the D-2 or D-3 level. He has nice hands, a soft touch around the rim and runs the floor although says he must work on his “motor.”
He will also battle inside for rebounds and protect the rim. He’s played at the varsity high school level for three years and is currently playing his AAU basketball with TNBA West Flash.
During a recent summer league game against Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary he held his own against his highly touted opponent, although he was a full two inches taller than anyone St. V’s threw at him. He showed flashes of toughness in battling inside along with a clever little inside offensive game. In watching him shoot free throws he displayed a nice, soft stroke, and would not appear to be a big who could fall prey to a hack-a-Shaq strategy. Recorded a double-double as a junior in a road win over the eventual conference champion Avon.
He’s spent the summer working on his ball-handling shooting and motor, Sala said after his game with St. V’s.
“I bring a post presence, see the floor and am a good defender,” Sala said when asked to describe his game.
The big man has garnered interest from Lake Erie College and Wheeling Jesuit.
“I try to do what’s best for my team, play my role,” said Sala, whose father is 6’5” and was a football player. Sala said he wants to major in criminal justice in college.
