Recruiting Report: Darius Hines (2018)
It seems that each year, Darius Hines, a class of 2018 point guard at Bishop Ireton, finds a way to take his game to another level. In each of his past two seasons, Hines has led Ireton in scoring. The team’s win total has also doubled in that span.
“I am true point guard. Pass first. I can score when i need to. And make plays for others,” Hines explained. “The one thing people don’t see is that I make others around me better.”
Hines hit 22 threes as a sophomore, but hit 55 as a junior. His scoring average jumped from nearly 11 points per game to 15. All of this is as a result of his incredibly strong work ethic, and he’s done all this while exhibiting outstanding leadership intangibles.
“The most improved part of my game would be being more vocal on and off the court. And my 3 ball,” Hines stated. “I need to work on finishing around bigs. I can finish at the basket, but Ive been told that I don’t finish well around bigger guys, so I need to work on it.”
Hines is doing well in school, and has a GPA between 3.3 and 3.4. Division Two programs Millersville and Concordia have each offered him full scholarships. A handful of low to mid level division one schools have reportedly expressed interest as well. What can Hines bring to a college program?
“I think I can bring scoring, and passing to a college program. Also, I can run the team very well. And overall I just bring leadership to the program.”
