Recruiting Report: Danny Kolp (2018)
With high test scores comes Ivy League interest, and that’s just what Petoskey 6-foot-9 power forward Danny Kolp is starting to experience.
After performing well on his SAT recently, Kolp says he’s started to see his recruitment take on a different shape, that’s included hoops interest from some of the more prestigious academic schools in the country.
“As of lately I’ve been talking to some Ivy League schools and some Patriot League schools. I did pretty well on my SAT, so I’ve had some more schools from academically strong conference’s contact me,” said Kolp.
Albany, Lehigh, Bucknell, Brown and Yale were the schools he mentioned that are recruiting him right now.
Kolp — Michigan’s 15th-ranked 2018 — says high academics has always been a priority for him, and his family.
“My parents have always reinforced academics, they really push me to do well in school,” said Kolp. “So that definitely has a big say in where I go to school, and what I want to study.”
In terms of his basketball development, Kolp has been working lately to diversify his skill-set, specifically his ability to work from the outside in.
“Lately, I’ve been working on my open floor game, so basically my dribbling, pull-up jumpers, expanding my range,” he said. “I’m really trying to differentiate myself as being a 6’9 forward who’s versatile and can take people off the dribble, and make an impact on the wing as well.”
With still two live period events left to showcase himself to high level college coaches, Kolp says the goals are to turn some more heads and better himself as a person and player.
“I’m definitely looking forward to playing in front of more coaches, and showing more people what I can do. I just want to play well and see what God’s plan is,” said Kolp.
“I want to show that I’m a great team player, and that I understand the game of basketball. And I’m willing to work hard at whatever I have to do to get better as a person and a basketball player.”
