Recruiting Report: Cooper Jackson (2018)
Wear Out the Net Ewing was one of the top grassroots team in the state during the spring and summer. One of the real underrated contributors to the team’s success was Lakeville South point guard Cooper Jackson.
Jackson proved effective both on and off the ball on both ends of the floor, blending great marksmanship from beyond the 3-point line with an ability to orchestrate an offense while providing terrific on and off ball defense.
One of the many standouts for WOTN, Jackson said a big part of the team – and his individual – success was in the camaraderie and selflessness throughout the team.
“I really enjoyed this season,” said Jackson. “We’ve done great and we played as a team. That made the whole experience really fun. We’re basically the same team from last year and I think that helped us a lot. We all knew each other and we’re all good friends. Our coach always preaches ball movement and that really helped us develop that chemistry too.”
Jackson’s played himself into a lot of college interest this spring and summer but the sport he may have the most opportunity in is track and field.
If Jackson proved anything last year, it’s that he’s a quick study, as he earned a trip to the Class AA state meet in his first season running track and field where he finished seventh in the 800 meter run.
“[I’ve talked to] Bethel a lot and I’ve been in touch with a few others,” Jackson said regarding his basketball recruitment. “A lot of my college interest has come in track though. The recruiting goes pretty much the same as basketball in terms of talking and texting with coaches. Northern State, UMD, Moorhead and a handful of other local ones.”
