Recruiting Report: Cameron Rucker (2018)
Springbrook High School is known for churning out some of the best talent in Montgomery County. Cam Rucker, a class of 2018 forward, is part of the next wave. At 6’6, he does a bit of everything on both ends of the floor.
“I can handle the ball, against the press, and in the open court. I’m able to start the fast break off of a defensive rebound. While crashing the boards and finding multiple ways to score along with solid defense and good overall decision making,” Rucker explained. “One thing I feel like that is not seen is my post defense, and inside battling. Being the tallest person on my team, I often find myself rebounding, and defending players that can range from 6’9-7’0. I give it all up inside which is not always noticed.”
We certainly admire Rucker’s willingness to do the dirty work for his team, and have taken notice. One thing we really like about his game is his ability to make shots. Rucker is a mismatch for traditional bigs, but also doesn’t mind taking smaller opponents in the post where he can score with his back to the basket.
“Over the summer I am working on increasing my overall athleticism. Specifically quickness, explosiveness, and vertical. From there, incorporating them into my game,” said Rucker. “I would say I am a good student. I take all honors or AP classes, and have maintained a 3.8 GPA throughout my junior year. My overall average is about 3.5 maybe a little higher.”
Rucker has not received any offers, but he has attracted attention from various schools of all levels. Washington College is one division three program that is actively recruiting Rucker, who will look to gain more interest this July with on the AAU Circuit with DC Warriors. What can he bring to a college program?
“I feel like I can bring good attitude, leadership, and be an overall good role model as an athlete AND a student.”
