Recruiting Breakdown: Patrick Williams (2019)
Playing at West Charlotte High School comes with a sort of pride and toughness. Some great NBA players and college players were a West Charlotte Lion at one point in their careers. The latest prospect out of West Charlotte is 6-foot-6 point guard Patrick Williams.
Williams recruitment has been a little slow this summer, he has been hearing lately from Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion. He has offers from NC State, Florida, Dayton, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, UNC-Greensboro, Delaware State, Texas A&M, and Hampton. ” I haven’t received any new offers lately, but I feel like VCU, Penn State and Virginia are close to offering.”
Improvements to his game are a key factor in the offers that he already has to date. “I’ve become a lot more aggressive, I have been working on my conditioning and my motor. I can still be more aggressive and I am still working on not taking any plays off but I think I have got better in those areas.”
Williams spent the summer playing with Team United on the Nike EYBL circuit. As far as visits in the coming months, Williams stated “I haven’t scheduled any visits as of right now but I will talk with my family about taking some soon.”
Williams is a new-age big point guard who with his height can see over smaller guards and either make the jump shot or make the easy pass. He is long and athletic, he can rebound with his size, push the ball in transition, score at the rim with either hand and can facilitate the offense. He has great court-vision and has a strong handle on the basketball. He has a level of maturity that is beyond his years that you only see in players that end up being high-major recruits on down the line.
