Recap: Fab 48 Tip Off Classic
LAS VEGAS, NV.– While the propaganda wave of Grassroots Basketball reached new heights with the highly anticipated match-up between 2018 dunking extraordinaire Zion Williamson and LaMelo Ball, I chose a different route—and I’m glad I did.
The Fab 48 Tip Off Challenge was chock full of outstanding games and highlight performances.
Francisco’s Finest
Best Performance
Louis King (Team Final)
Joel’s Take: This 6-foot-8 willowy wing ropped 41-points in an effortless manner….feather jump shots and skillful drives
Best two-way player
Scottie Lewis (Team Rio)
Joel’s Take: Not surprising to see him block a shot at one end and seconds later either hitting a deep jump shot or dunking on some would-be defender.
Louisville-bound
Anfernee Simons (Team Breakdown)
Joel’s Take: Showed last night that he is just not a scorer. Ran the offense and made some dazzling passes as well.
2020 Sensations
Scottie Barnes (Nike Team Florida)
Joel’s Take: Proved he is a Top Five player with the multiple ways he affects the game at both ends. High-level passer as well. Basketball Player
Jaren Suggs (Grassroots Sizzle)
Joel’s Take: Advances the ball like a young Lonzo Ball and he can finish inside-and-out.
Nico Mannion (Earl Watson Elite)
Joel’s Take: Dominates his foes with his relentless pace, explosive drives, and evolving pull-up game.
Mr. Fundamentals
Riley Battin (Earl Watson Elite)
Joel’s Take: Will not wow you with his hops, but he’ll turn defenders in knots with his post moves
Blue Collar Madness
Jaedon LeDee (Texas Pro)
Joel’s Take: Put in work at both ends in the areas of rebounding in traffic, finishing through contact, and nailed a number contested elbow jump shots.
Jack of All Trades
Dana Tate (Expressions Elite)
Joel’s Take: Impacted game with moxie and IQ. Finished plays inside-and-out, grabbed timely rebounds and found open teammates.
Clever Playmaker
William Richardson (E1T1)
Joel’s Take: Changes speeds with the best and will either finish in the paint or drop off a sweet dime.
Top 10 in his class
Precious Achiuwa (New Heights NYC)
Joel’s Take: One of the most well-rounded prospects in the Class of 2019. This 6-foot-8 power forward has a soft touch from deep and the strength and athleticism to convert inside. Skilled
