Prospect Watch: Joseph Reece (2018)
Class of 2018 forward Joseph Reece of Vashon knows a little something about winning state championships.
The versatile 6’8″ forward has been a starter and key player for the Wolverines’ back-to-back Class 4 state championship teams. As he heads into his senior year, Reece will have a new role as the Wolverines try for a three-peat state title. He is Vashon’s only returning senior as he follows a talented class of six graduating players who brought the tradition back to “The V.”
As a junior, Reece averaged 11.5 points and five rebounds on a well-balanced Vashon team that won 27 games last season against a national schedule.
“Since, I’m the only senior, I have to be the leader and be physically stronger,” Reece said. “Me and Mario (McKinney), we have to lead and show the young ones how it’s done, so when we leave, they are going to be the leaders of the future.”
Reece’s combination of size, length and skills have made him a Division I prospect with a number of offers already on the table. He has already been offered by schools such as Saint Louis U, Kansas State, Duquesne with many others showing interest. His length enables him to score around the basket, but he can also step out and knock down 3-pointers, which makes him an ideal combo forward.
“Being long helps because it only takes a couple of steps to get where I want to go,” he said. “With one big step, I’m already around somebody and I use that to my advantage.”
During the month of July, Reece has been running with the Ramey-Jets United 17U that played in the Adidas Uprsing Gauntlet Finale in South Carolina.
“I’m really looking forward to these last set of summer tournaments before my senior year,” Reece said. “I want to make the best of it. I’m looking forward to working hard and seeing the coaches who are recruiting me.”
